Today I thought was going to be "the day": moving this beast of a house off my front porch and to the upstairs area I have made to work on it. I've been looking forward to it all week. Welp, my husband decided at the last minute to take our son to a Pokemon event. They've been gone for almost 12 hours. So, no moving I guess. What I DID decide to do was to go through the little dollhouse things I already have. I have a large laundry basket from an estate sale I went to earlier this summer. The former owners built dollhouses and their house was FILLED with everything you can imagine. I filled a basket and got tons of furnishings. I also have what I could salvage from the dollhouse itself (I think she needs a name. I'll have to think of one). So I took some pics and decided to add these tiny things to today's post. I chose my favorites.
I think my favorite is the teeny-tiny crazy quilt in the first couple of pictures. This came from the house. Wait...okay, she definitely needs a name. Something stately but also spooky-related.....Hilda? Like in Hildegarde? Or Agatha? That's classic witchy. I'll go with "Hilda" for now. Anyhoo, LOOK at that quilt. All hand patched and stitched from fabric and ribbon pieces. They even did the correct block stitches AND embroidery on it (ex: spiderwebs for good luck). They basted it in brown velvet and backing is a brown cotton. I washed it and honestly, I kind of want to frame it and put it on my wall. It's a gorgeous feat of art and sewing. Not to be sexist, but I'm going to pretend unknown grandma who was married to unknown grandpa (he who build the house) made it and the other textiles (like the miniscule crocheted afghan and matching pillows further down. Some of it needs to be repaired; a lot of the furniture has 3 legs or less. I LOVE the stove. I'm trying to figure out how to recreate new legs on them. I have 2, TWO antique-looking iceboxes. I personally like the one with the cooling unit on the top instead of the "older" true ice box.
Also, LOOK at that all wood, carved bed. I want one in real life just like it. The estate sale items also included lots of fake food, tiny home accessories such as rolling pins, picture frames, irons, etc. I won't be using all of it, but this is only a small fraction of what I have. Honestly I could furnish an entire dollhouse with what I have right now. I'll be altering much of the furniture (like the Hoosier cabinet) to look old, used, and abandoned.
