Kitchen Progress

I finished the kitchen by laying more than 900 plaster tiles, painting, and putting in a popsicle floor.  I stained it, ran a shelving unit with handmade brackets along the wall and then found furniture.  My favorite part was the next one: making it filthy and abandoned .  Using black, burnt umber, and burnt sienna acrylic paint, dirtied the hell out of it.  I put stains on the floors, grungied-up the tiles adding mold and scum.  I put water stains in the ceiling with drips marring the nice sage green paint  that I had laied down.

I wanted it to look decrepit and untouched for decades.  I did have to order a 1920's sink and replace the legs from the stove (I pulled legs off of a table I got in my giant estate sale haul and glued them on).  The picture to the side is the "before" I destroyed it.

After

This is where I stopped last night.  I bought an led light fixture after weighing my options on whether to wire or not.  I chose not to go the electric route since the house was already built.  This is not staged, my plan is to stack the kitchen chairs in a pyramid a la' Poltergeist.  I've got dirty dished in the sink, rust, rotten wood, and a sooty, nasty stove.  I also glued and aged various plates, etc. along the chair rail.

Movies watched over this period:  The Conjuring, Midsommer, Harvey Guillen's podcast, the first bit of the Friday the 13th series that just debuted. I have some chalk pastels to add dust, and I found a tutorial on making realistic cobwebs from pulled apart dryer sheets (which we have tons of).  I just need to do those little details.  Still debating on ratty curtains for the window.

I spent a bit of time at work this week making the start of my easter eggs for the kitchen.  They will be:

Stacked kitchen chairs (Poltergeist), Necktie from Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), The Bee Helmet and Bees (Wickerman), Music Box (Conjuring), Spilled Glass of Water and BaseBall Bat (Signs), FElatio 257 (Black Christmas).
